The Service of
Charity of the Roman Catholic Church
had been established in 1950 to remedy the situation which arose
as a consequence of the dissolution of the religious orders. It
was at that time that the operation of the religious orders terminated
and many, many old and sick friars and nuns remained without care.
The Hungarian Catholic Bishop Conference entrusted the Service
of Charity to nurse the religious people left without care. Out of
the over 700 buildings confiscated from the religious orders the
state allocated five ones to care for the persons left without a
roof over their head. The staff members of the Service of Charity
have been trying to provide for the physical-mental wealth of these
people in need.
Thanks to the miraculous order of God an outstanding
monk , the Jesuit friar Gábor Szörényi and a wonderful nun, Erna
Szabó, a Sister of Charity from Szatmár became the heads of the
charity organisation.
Their personalities were decisive in that these houses
could become the islands of love and belonging even during the darkest
period. Piarist fiar Ottó Virányi took over the management of the
Service of Charity from father Gábor Szörényi in 1980 and he has
held it together with his great heart up to his death. With service
of several decades Katalin M. Luciána Zalán , a Sister of Charity
from Szatmár contributed a great deal to the care of elderly priests
and monks.
The residents of our homes determined the praying
atmosphere of our homes. The nuns have been teaching the staff with
exemplary diligence, with their unlimited trust in God. In the spirit
of their concept we have established strong, well-trained working
teams.
We continue to carefully select the members of our
staff; many of them are highly qualified and devoted in serving
the people entrusted to them. Regular training courses and spiritual
exercises greatly contribute to our efforts to serve those ENTRUSTED
TO US devotedly, with the joy of belonging to the Charity Service.
With fifty years of experiences gained in personal care we are unbrokenly
committed to expertise.
